Julia is two years, four months. Harrison and Claire are seven and a half months. To say I’ve been busy, or more commonly that I “have my hands full”, is an epic understatement. But things are looking up. I find that I have time for more and more. It’s always the same when a baby is born. The mother cuts all the crap and only has eyes for baby. The house and the husband often are relegated to the back seat for a while. As baby grows and sleeps so does mom. Sleep is the nutrition of productivity and so it stands to reason that more things will get done rather than just baby care. In the past month I’ve finally been able to…
- Consistently make the beds.
- Mop my kitchen floor.
- Clean the table and around the table more than once a day.
- Just “hang out” with the kids.
- Read magazines. One of my favorite things.
- Get all my chores done at a reasonable hour.
- Show the husband some love.
- Cook like I mean it.
- Actually watch the shows that accumulate on my DVR.
The past few days I’ve felt a little tug to write. I’m not sure what. But something. I can see the light at the end of the baby tunnel, it’s the oncoming train of toddler in-fighting and potty training that will likely push me over the edge. I’m going to need something adult to do. Given my post three baby body most of the usual “adult” options are out. So, I’ll stuck with writing because I like it.
I won’t make any promises or set ridiculous goals. I will however, invest in a good freshening up on the blog and see if that inspires me to write a little more.
I’m not even going to apologize for not blogging from October to December. Seriously. Life with a two year old and almost 5 month old twins is CRAZY. I love it, but….it’s more than a little cra-cra. Everybody is doing well (except for Daddy, who doesn’t have the luxury of sleeping through all the night feeds this time around). I think he’ll survive, but the thread is wearing thin! Here are the deets.
- I quit my “job” to become a home maker, home economist, home engineer, and my personal favorite, the COO of our family.
- Julia is 2 years and 1 month old. She is a naughty! Smart and naughty! Cute, smart, and naughty! If it’s true that curiosity is a sign of intelligence then she is a genius!!! But man, oh man, she is naughty. For example, a few weeks ago she pushed her shopping cart into the bathroom and climbed into it and then onto the toliet and from there onto the counter where she proceeded to remove a box of matches from my jewelry box and strike them. Thank the Lord (seriously) that she was striking the wrong end. But as we all know, there was a 50/50 chance of that going all kinds of wrong. Then there was the time a few weeks before her birthday that I let her play in the backyard while I loosely supervised from the kitchen via the open back door. After a few minutes of silence I went looking for her. I found her. I found her on a ladder, on top of a ladder to be exact. Mere inches from the roof. Yes, she climbed our 12 foot ladder that we had leaning against the back of the garage, tucked away behind a tree. Deep breath. Deeeeeeeep breath. And naturally, she’s uttered the classic, “Mommy, Mmmmmm, yummy booger.” Ick.
- Harrison is doing great. He is rolling over in both directions. He eats rice cereal whenever I’m not too busy to feed it to him. (I need to prioritize this for sure) He is holding his head extremely well, is about to army crawl, and laughs hysterically. He has plagiocephaly (flat head) and torticollis (his neck is kinked to his left). So he is wearing a StarBand these days and gets some physical therapy. Nothing major, and nothing that impacts his development. He weighs somewhere between 13 and 14 lbs if I had to guess and wears 3 – 6 month and 6 month clothing. But for me the biggest shocker is…he is cutting his first tooth! This is 5 months sooner than his big sister cut her first tooth! Note to self and readers, he will chew your shoulder and drool profusely.
- Claire is like a whole new girl! We finally fixed her terrible stomach pains (we suspect) by switching her to Enfamil Nutramigen and putting her on Zantac rather than Prevacid. No one is sure which one was the magic bullet, but no one cares as long as she isn’t SCREAMING for 10 hours a day is wretched pain. Claire has rolled over in both directions as well, but she doesn’t do it regularly. She much prefers showing off her amazing fine motor skills rather than her gross motor skills. She has had a little bit of rice cereal but it backed her for days and brought back the hard core screaming, so we’ll try again in a week or so. She is a dainty little thing, weighing in at barely 11 lbs. She smiles and coos and is just adorable. More than a few people have stopped me in stores to tell me how relieved they were that she was a real live human because at first they thought she was a doll!
There’s the recap. It’s my resolution to blog consistently this year. Let’s see how long I make it.
